How does Immigration Affect the United States?
The United States has historically depended on immigrant labor since the beginning of migration. In the 1820s was the first instance a mass migration happened, foreigners coming from all over to live in the United States. In 2015 there were 43.3 million immigrants living in the United States, about 14% of Americas population.

People view the effects of Immigration in two different ways. One view is that immigrants takes away jobs from americans and people who are here legally. The other view is that jobs that need to be filled for our economy to function, are taken by illegal immigrants because no American will take those jobs. It's hard for researchers to study the direct effect immigration has on american economy because different states have different amounts of illegal immigrants so the data can be skewed.
Whenever we think of immigration in the United States we typically think of Mexico. Over the past 200 years immigration from several countries has shifted. In the 1800s immigration to the United States came primarily from Europe. In the 1900s we start to see North and South American immigration catch up, and by the 2000s immigration from North and South America is the most common in the U.S. But what effect does this have on the United States and our economy?
